Custom Pricing Rules

What is a Custom Pricing Rule?

USchedule allows you to create custom pricing rules that can increase or decrease a price from its default amount. You could create a custom pricing rule that takes into consideration the employee or instructor who is presenting the service/lesson, the resource or specific resource unit, a date range, day of the week or time of day, or if a customer has a membership.

Creating Custom Pricing Rules for Services/Lessons

To create a custom pricing rule for a service/lesson you will start by opening your navigation menu.

Once opened you will select Settings from your navigation menu.

Once you are on your settings page, you will be able to create custom pricing rules for services/lessons in two different places.

First you can click on the Pricing tab, from the column on the left hand side of the screen.

This will allow you to create custom pricing rules for any of your services/lessons by selecting them from the drop down menu and clicking Add New.

The second place you can create a custom pricing rule for a service/lesson from your settings page is by clicking on the Services tab from the column on the left hand side. Please note this is a custom naming field and may also be listed as Lessons, Rentals, etc.

Once you click on your services tab, you will be taken to your services list. Click edit on the service you would like to create a custom pricing rule for.

After clicking on the edit button, you will be taken to the details tab of your selected service. Click on the Pricing tab to create a custom pricing rule for the selected service.

Once on the pricing tab, you will be shown the default price for the selected service. To add a custom price rule, click Add New.

After clicking add new, you will be taken to a page titled edit pricing. This is where you will create your custom pricing rule. Descriptions for each of the fields are shown in the screenshot below.

Pricing Entity Type

This field allows you to select what entity this custom pricing rule will apply to. For most accounts the only two options will be employee or resource.

Note: If you do not have any bookable employees in your account, such as an account that only allows for simulator bookings that do not involve a lesson or instruction, when creating a custom pricing rule you will always select Resource.

Employee/Resource

Depending on your selection for pricing entity type, the next field will either be labeled employee or resource, reflecting the option you selected in pricing entity type. If you have selected employee, you will have the option of choosing a specific employee that the custom pricing rule will apply to, or if the custom pricing rule will apply to all employees. If you have selected resource, you will be asked to select the type of resource that the custom pricing rule applies too. You will then be given the option to apply this custom pricing rule to all of the units of that resource type, or only a particular unit.

Price

This is the price that your custom pricing rule will apply.

Note: You only need to create a custom pricing rule if the price you are adding is different from your default price.

Price Type

You will have three options for price type.

Flat Rate

If this option is selected, regardless of the duration of the service/lesson that is booked, a fixed price will be charged to the customer. For this reason, most of the time a flat rate is only appropriate for a service or lesson that has a fixed amount of time. For example a golf lesson that is always one hour in duration.

Hourly Rate

If this option is selected the price will be multiplied by the number of hours that a service/lesson is booked. This is almost always the appropriate option for a service/lesson that can be booked for a variable amount of time. For example, a simulator rental that could be booked a minimum of one hour or a maximum or four hours.

Per Person

This is a special option that is used for services/lessons that have an adjustable group size. The price will be multiplied by the number selected by the customer in the group size field during the booking process. This is useful for semi-private or group lessons, when a customer has the option to book a service/lesson for more than just themselves.

Note: When using a per person pricing, like flat rate, the price will not increase as the duration of the booking increases, only as the number selected in the group size increases. This price option is usually only appropriate for services/lessons that have a fixed duration.

Commission

If your custom pricing rule includes a commission structure that you would like to have reflected on your commission report please include that here.

Commission Type

You will have three options for commission type.

Flat Rate

This is a fixed commission amount.

Percentage

This is a number that will be read as a percentage of the price total. For example if you had a service with a hourly price of $100 per hour and the commission was a percentage type entered at 25. Then a three hour booking of this service, with a total price of $300 would result in a $75 commission being reflected on the commission report.

Per Person

The commission will be multiplied by the group size selected when the appointment is booked.

Date Range

You have three options for date range.

None

Select this option if you would like your custom pricing rule to be applied indefinitely.

Specific Dates

Select this option if you would like your custom pricing rule to be applied only within a specified date range.

Single Date

Select this option if you would like your custom price rule to be applied only to a specified single day.

Times

You will have the option of applying your custom pricing rule All Day which is to say, without a time requirement, or only during Specific Times.

Day of the Week

You can choose to apply your custom pricing rule Every Day of the Week, Week Days, Weekends or any specific day of the week.

Note: If you would like to have your custom pricing rule applied to only Monday and Wednesday or some other combination of multiple different days of the week that do not fit into the category of exclusively weekends or exclusively weekdays, you will have to create multiple custom pricing rules.

Membership

You can select if the custom pricing rule will only apply to customers who have a particular membership.
